Colonial Curse
The year was 1698 and the small colony of New Hope was plagued by disease and famine. The townspeople, mostly Puritans who had fled religious persecution in their homeland, were facing hardships they’ve never experienced before. Among them was Sophia, a young woman whose husband and young child were ravaged by an unknown disease. The physician could do nothing but offer his condolences. Sophia collapsed to the ground weeping, her heart shattered. With tears streaming down her face, she forced herself to believe that there was still hope. As the days passed, Sophia watched as her family’s condition worsened. She spent every waking moment by their side, holding their hands and whispering words of comfort.
The townspeople, who had once been friendly and supportive, now avoided her. They feared that the illness that had taken hold of her family would spread to them and their families. Feeling alone and exiled, Sophia searched for ancient cure as a last desperate measure. She scoured old books and manuscripts, hoping to find something—anything—that could save her family. One night, in the dim light of a flickering candle, Sophia stumbled upon a tattered volume buried deep within the library's dusty shelves. The book's leather cover was worn and cracked, its pages yellowed with age. The text within was cryptic, written in a blend of old English and strange symbols. Sophia’s fingers trembled as she traced the faded ink. The book spoke of ancient rituals. One particular passage caught her eye; a ritual that would cure her husband and child. Unbeknownst to her, it was a curse that would freeze time. Sophia's heart raced and her hands shook as she recited the words from the ancient text, her voice trembling but determined. Unaware to Sophia, her husband and child just passed away. The room around her grew colder as she completed the incantation. Shadows seemed to stretch and twist, and the flickering candlelight took on an eerie glow. As she finished the final words, a profound silence settled over her home. The air was thick with an unnatural stillness, and for a moment, Sophia felt as if she were caught in the grip of an unearthly force. She looked around, and the world seemed to be holding its breath. To her surprise, the next morning the world seemed different. Nobody could leave the walls of the colony and a dense fog settled in. New Hope was isolated from the rest of the world and Sophia was forever trapped in time, alone.
The colony remained hidden until the 21st century when a group of archaeologists stumbled upon its existence. They could move throughout New Hope, coming and going as they pleased, but Sophia and the townspeople were not happy because they remained trapped. The townspeople, still bound by the timeless spell, saw the influx of modern-day visitors as a cruel reminder of their endless confinement. Their jealousy and frustration grew as they watched people from outside the fog move freely, while they themselves remained trapped in a perpetual moment of time.
As more and more visitors came to see New Hope, the colonists became overcome with jealousy, trying to trap outsiders within New Hope’s walls. Can YOU escape the cursed colony?
